California, USA

Our Californian road trip started in San Diego and we spent the next two weeks heading north, checking out every beach town along the way. We seemed to spend most of the time at the beach, swimming and watching the sun set over the ocean. The water on this side of the Pacific is a lot colder than back home! The plus side is that the temperature is pretty much perfect for seals and we were all very excited each time they popped their head out of the water to say hello. The weather was warm, we made 100 sand castles, met new friends and ate dozens of fish tacos. We tried stand up paddle boarding, watched plenty of surfers and visited the amazing Monterey Aquarium. Up north we swapped the beach for the redwood forests for a few days and camped in Big Sur, something I have wanted to see since I was a kid. It was pretty awesome to wake up under the redwoods with a river running past our tent and a campfire to keep warm.
