We spent two days driving from Salta in the north west of Argentina, through to San Pedro de Atacama in Chile. The drive was spectacular, passing the high points of the Andes at 4900m above sea level. We had an experienced driver and a heavy duty SUV to take us over the altitude and across the border. It was an awesome way to travel, seeing sights I could never have imagined, from expansive salt flats to Mars-like red mountains, lakes and the crazy Andean wildlife that thrives where nothing else can survive.
