Our Southern road trip started in Nashville where we met up with my old college friend and her family. We listened to country music on Broadway and did the things American families do in the fall - visited a pumpkin patch, ran through corn mazes and got ready for Halloween. The kids started dressing in costumes half way through October, wearing superhero capes for days on end. We drove across Tennessee into Memphis where we visited the home of The King and ate plenty of southern fried chicken. Then it was further south...down the Mississippi through swamplands and Louisiana plantations before arriving in New Orleans. The home of voodoo, streetcars, Mardi gras beads and of course the French Quarter. Gumbo, jumbalaya, muffleta, beignets - all food with strange names but plenty of flavour. And that Southern accent y'all!
